Home is where the heart is, just like this proverb said, we feel home to this website. We put all of our heart from the first time we decided to create this blog. HijabScarf blog is our home, the place where we can share our passion and express our thoughts to all readers.

At early 2012, we determine to go back home and update this blog more often. As we are welcoming 2012, we would like to create more beneficial posts, more pictures, and meet more inspiring muslimah.

We also would like to welcome our new HijabScarf member, baby Lola, Fifi’s first daughter. Lola is 4 months old. She is pretty and love to be around people. Next gathering we’ll make sure to introduce her to you. Hanna is also enjoying her pregnancy with her big belly. Expecting her baby by early of January 2012. Wishing her and the baby have a safe and smooth delivery. Ameen.

Let's welcome 2012 with positive spirit and energy to bring more love through this website. For a starter, please enjoy our maternity and newly mom moment after a long pause of not having a picture together.

Mrs. Fifi just had a baby 2 months ago and her name is Aurora Azzahra Alvianto (here's the story about her pregnancy), and Mrs. Hanna is expecting a baby soon, she's now 7 months pregnant. We all miss you, and this weekend Casa Elana is visiting Bandung at Trademark Event Booth B18 (Paris Van Java). See you there tomorrow...

Every Big Thing Starts Small

We believe that every big thing starts from a small and simple dream. Anytime someone asks us how the story goes behind Hijab Scarf, well it started from a simple and small dream to have a resourceful media about hijab style and scarves.

A year since having Hijab Scarf we have met great people, we have got great opportunities and we have adventured many beautiful memories. We want to share this experience and we want everyone to experience the same opportunities from blogging. So we both set up a casual meeting with Mrs. Nuniek from Fimela.com and told her our plan about wanting to have a small gathering with our readers due to our capacity as pregnant housewives. Gladly, we had positive response. After the first meeting, we came up with the title “Empowering Women Through Blogging”, an intimate meeting about the power of blogging, was going to be held at Fimela House - Grand Indonesia.

We decided to ask Mrs. Ninit and Mrs. Ollie as speakers. From their experience and achievement on blogging they surely got everything we would like to know about blogging.

The registration opened at 2 p.m. and everyone received goodie bags from Wardah Cosmetics, a notebook agenda from Dove and a scarf from Casa Elana, plus IDR 100.000 Esprit voucher for the first 20 guests. Before the gathering started, we enjoyed talking to friends, eating yummy foods and drinks from Tin Pan Alley, and having a beauty consultation at Wardah booth.
The gathering was opened by MC Uul, and continued with a warm greeting by Dien Tirto Buwono as the host from Fimela. We felt welcome and homey. Mrs. Nuniek moderated the show as Mrs. Ninit and Mrs. Ollie shared their journey, their experience and the benefit they gathered from blogging. The stories astounded us.
“Find your expertise. If you don't have one, build your own expertise. Be positive and passionate with everything you write and success will follow. Twitter, FB status or even strangers can be your inspirations. Blogging is a journal of reaction, not a chronological diary. Tell us what your thought and what you feel, not the detail of your schedule.” said Mrs. Ollie.

“It's important to avoid negativity. It's contagious. When we get negative comments, don't let them stop you from writing. We cannot make everybody's happy.” said Mrs. Ninit.

The audience then got a chance to ask and those who raised questions brought home a book from each speaker, who is also the author. Two lucky winners also got door prize from Fimela, a Lanvin parfume and IDR 500.000 voucher from Optik Melawai, both of them shared us the story about their struggles to come to the event.
Our greatest gratitude was to all the lovely audience who came dressed up and beautifully. Everyone looked stunning. We can definitely steal their look. Also, congratulations to both best dress winner Mrs. Ola and Mrs. Mimi Alysa. Enjoy the gift from Casa Elana.
What a great moment! Thank you Fimela.com for giving us the opportunity to have this intimate meeting with all the lovely ladies. Thank you to all sponsors: Wardah cosmetics, Tin Pan Alley, Dove, Casa Elana and everyone who supports us. It may sound like an Oscar winning award speech, well it feels that nice :)

Fimela house also accomodated us a photobooth, which reminded us to one of those crazy moments back at school taking photos with all those silly faces. It’s a nice way to get one of our narcissistically crazy adolescent moments back.

"Are we going to dive or at least snorkeling today?", (fyi, I brought my snorkeling equipment ready).

Fifi,
"Snorkeling? Where?".

Hanna,
"Well around the beaches.. I hope we can at least snorkeling, but since you're pregnant we will stay on the surface and we'll take some pictures of corals and fishes like the one when we went to Lombok? Remember?".

Fifi,
"Where? Here?".

Hanna,
"Yes.." *excited*.

Fifi,
"Its Carita.. Don't expect you will see any coral or some cute fishes around the surface" :))

Hanna,

Well its not that we were not enjoying the trip. We're thankful for this trip and for the enjoyment we got; the fresh coconut, tasty foods, the sunset, the villa and the sand. We may not see any fishes crossing over our sight but we tried to write down Hijab Scarf on the sand before it got washed down by the wave. It was quite fun. Haha..

So what we're going to tell you about was how much we like holiday. After all the playing cat and mouse with the wave, we need to close the holiday with something refreshing like washing our face with Wardah Beauty Cleanser. Nice and calming.

Carita Trip Part II

Day two..

We hot up quite late so we miss the sunrise. By the time we were ready to hit the beach, the weather prevents us to go out even near the beach. It was scorching hot. So we just laid down and surrendered to the temptation of playing on and around the pool with our dress on. Yes, giving out out best childhood memories by playing on the pool. And somehow your body scream out asking to get a bot more of attention. The body screamed to have a break.

How to give yourself the break to your body needs?

The best thing we can do to our body is to let it rest. We should appreciate our body more, since we often neglect it even when it gives you signal that its slowing down. How about some relaxing massage with a great olive oil and body scrubbing?

We gave our body a simple massage with one of a great massage oil from Wardah. Wardah olive oil smells really nice and very calming. The oil absorbed very well. many olive oil are greasy with sticky texture but not this one.

This olive oil also come out really good for makeup remover and a skin cleanser. This is a solution when you miss bringing the eye remover, lips remover, cleanser or all the cleanser you have. Surprisingly this moisturize your face enough without making it too oily.

After that, we couldn't resist ourself to bring more joy to the skin by exfoliating our skin. Wardah body scrub genty exfoliates the skin and removes our dead skin cell and leaves our skin nice, gentle, soft and smooth. It contains exfoliating crushed to revealed a brighter and smoother skin. try to massage in a circular motions. From what we heard, regular exfoliating and massaging can help your skin toned and firmed.

Enjoy life more, have a better mood and more focused by simply a massage away.

Carita Trip Part I

It's been a while from our last holiday together. Felt so happy to have another trip with the husbands. This time we went to Carita (Banten). The smell of the sun, the waves, the food never fail us especially fresh seafood.

Camera checked, comfy dresses checked, some entertainment gadgets checked, sunglases forgot :p and the most important one.. sunscreen! Nobody wants to get sunburn right? Plus a bit of Wardah eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, mascara, lipgloss and compact powder to cover our lazy face from sleeping during the way there, about 4 hours car ride from Jakarta.

Lovely day!

We satisfy our hunger by great food and the view is to die for. The afternoon sun is just the best time to have some pictures for us. The sun is not to harsh and it brings a great color to the pictures. Yes we love sunset!

A Tool of Empowerment

It's been a while since we received the package from SixteenR. We finally got a chance to properly get to know the products in our last trip. Our first impression, well these scarves are interesting; a soft silk purple scarves with some printing on it. It looks fun. The other one is a bright yellow scarf with a square pattern made out of fairly stiff material. Well normally, this is not a material that we use for headscarves. We got challenge.

Surprisingly the scarves texture very nice and warm, perfect for the beach when it's quite windy. We almost always took that scarves every time we went to the beach; simply by rolling it around the body or wrapping over the head or even just to warm your neck. We have to admit we started to get addicted with the scarves.

By the time we got home, we tried to know a bit more about the brand. When we browsed to their website www.sixteenr.com we immediately fell in love with the philosophy :
- A scarf can be a tool of empowerment.
- A scarf can define a womans presence with power and style.
- A scarf has the ability to transform a woman's appearance, whether you worn it as a neck scarf or as a head scarf.

With those strong personality, you would feel like you want to continue the spirit and the energy through the scarves their produce. You will crave for trying each of their products.

Nancy Hoque designs the products to make everyone who wear it feel confident and beautiful. Each design is innovative in color, look and feel. Furthermore each design has their meaning behind it. We think owning one scarf wont be enough, no? You have to have more than just one scarves to live by their ethos. So, what say you?

Almost A Year

Its been a wonderful journey for both of us, we started to have this blog last year, it was on April 2010 when we decided to make something that others might find useful especially for those who wear hijab. Blogging is something that I really like since 2007, I found my passion there, including photography, and this blog has helped me a lot in finding what I really like to do in life. After 1 month progress, Hijab Scarf was published in May, 10th - 2010, so around that April we did a loooottt of brainstorming. Somehow I can't believe it that we made it this far, having readers who support us and being interviewed by media, really made me cry. Hugs and kisses from me to all the readers out there, without you we are nothing.

I never thought I would sacrifice my dream job for blogging. I went to school in order to pursue my job working in tv station for tv programming. After a year working in tv programming I decided to quit and pursue my passion in Hijab Scarf.
I wasn't familiar with blogging until Fifi introduce me with this concept. From Hijab Scarf, I realize how small the world is. We can have the same feelings, difficulties and enthusiasm with our friend from another part of the world without even knowing them in person. The same feeling of starting the new life with the hijab, the difficulties of adjusting the new look and the enthusiasm of knowing forward about hijab.
On the contrary, Hijab Scarf also showed me that I know little about hijab. There are so many different perspectives and styles regarding hijab. This diversity makes me want to know more about hijab and the muslimah who wear hijab.
I learn so many things from this website that i wouldn't get from school. It's been a wonderful year and I am looking forward to know more and more about hijab and the way everyone express their hijab.

Fashion Festival Centro

We feel delighted that we got the opportunity to attend Fashion Festival from Centro. Centro is a department store that is famous here in Indonesia specifically in Jakarta. On that night we got a chance not only meeting some friends from the media but also meeting the most influential people from Centro.

Centro Fashion Festival & Dinner, 'Get The Movie Star Look' was held last March in the Ballroom of Djakarta Theatre. Centro would like to inspire everyone that each one of us is having their own star look that are ready to be explore. And we couldn't agree more of this idea.

Having a heavy influence from movies is something interesting and the upcoming collection from Centro is no exception. Centro brought some influential movies from past decades like The Tourist, The Devil Wears Prada, Confession of a Shopaholic, etc.

From their playful colored dress to a simple smart jacket like Anne Hathaway wore from The Devil Wears Prada, Centro is one of the places that is worth a visit. So let us bring out the star in us and take a look of their collection.

Media Exposure : Casa Elana (Republika)

The universe has been so kind. One thing that make our life even better than before is having our own clothing line, Casa Elana. The making of Casa Elana contains a bowl of laugh, a touch of luck and a simple chemistry among the three of us.

Casa Elana is an extension of something that we like to do. We like to have a tailor made dresses ever since we’re in school. We enjoy wearing our own design even though none of us actually know how to make a dress pattern. Nothing could be happier than working on something that you really enjoy, right?

We started using the name Casa Elana last March and this April we got a huge opportunity. We got a chance to show our collections to Republika, a National daily newspaper in Indonesia. It is such a great and honored opportunity for us, Alhamdulillah.

The photosession went well. I guess.. except for the silly poses we made. Hahaha.. Trust us, we tried to find someone more appropriate, more like a model, to get this photosession. Unfortunately we finally got to be the model for our own clothing line. Quite an experience.

We promise to provide you beauty and shade. How can we not like being around trees? Because we believe trees will make our life more pleasant. Hope that our presence can bring the ultimate energy through every collections we have.

Who are we?
We are Anneke Scorpy, Fifi Alvianto, and Hanna Faridl.

CASA ELANA is our idea of a relaxed look, it is indeed a pleasure to provide you the warmth of trees and we aim our brand for everyone who desire to look comfortable, nice and simply modest.

We are not an online store although there is still possibility to have one sometime in the future. We sell our products through bazaar around us, or hopefully soon having our own store and coverage to anywhere around your neighborhood.

And this is our expression of a modest hijab friendly outfit. Made by our experience wearing hijab. Addressed to everyone who love to look nice, comfortable and modest.

Casa Elana is not (yet) an online store. So far we sell our products by joining bazaar or event. We believe introducing our products in person is more valuable than meeting you by online. But who knows, one day we can ship our products overseas.

Right now www.casa-elana.com is temporarily under maintenance, but we'll spread the news if the site is ready. This proverb describe well the relationship between Hijab Scarf and Hijabs & Co. Though we may never meet in person we feel like sisters who can share common bond of sisterhood.
It is a bliss to live in the era when blogs bring all sisters around the world close at heart. Her background who raised and live from many cultures encourage us to know a bit more about her. We believe that the happiest business in the world is making friends.
So please introduce, Mrs. Lamia from Hijabs & Co.

1. Tell us about yourself?
I am just like another ordinary Arabic girls, my name is Lamia, 25 years old, I am from Switzerland, married to a wonderful husband. I like horse ridding, especially endurance race =)

2. When did you start wearing hijab and what is your biggest motivation?
Awhile ago, and nobody forced me to wear it. To be honest I was scared at first, especially when you live in a non-Muslim country. I remember one day I was reading the book of stories of prophets and their beautiful and pious wife, I was very touched. Alhamdulillah God guided me to wear it.

3. What is your biggest fear of living in a non-muslim country compare to your hometown?
I'm not afraid to live in a non-Muslim country, after all I'm used to it. I was born in France, grew up in an Arab country and after living in Europe, but something is unbearable for me is racism. Since the attacks on America, media speculation has pointed the finger at Muslims. A Muslim is portrayed to be a "terrorist", a "refugee", or a "militant", but seldom a real human being.
For example: in Switzerland Muslim women have no right to work with her veil, we don't have Muslim cemetery. Switzerland has banned the construction of minaret. We are obliged to buy meat from butcher because Switzerland prohibited to slaughter sheep, same the day of Eid Al-adha and of course banning the burqa.

4. What is the weirdest question regarding hijab you’ve ever got?
Hahahah, yes. Do you have hair under your hijab? Oh yes, and they are very long.

5. How do you cope living uncomfortably in a non muslim country?
What I explained on the 3rd question, can frighten a Muslim living in a Muslim country. But generally you don't feel insecure. Young people got more spirit than those aged. I am proud to be Muslim and proud to wear the veil, so I feel quite at ease. Several times, men and women stopped me in the street to tell me that my veil or my style was beautiful.

6. Some says that fashion and hijab does not go in the same line. Women should not beautify themselves when go out, such as wear make up, perfume or shoes that make a loud sound when they walk outside. What do you think about that?
I have always said that a woman can be fashionable but do dress with some modesty, do not fall into ridiculous dress and makeup. Wearing the veil is defined as an act of faith in the practice of Muslim worship, an object of value and a recognition for all women who wear it, for herself. Everyone has to respect this.

7. What kind of style that suit you best?
Parisian chicness is my style. ‘Chic, Comfort, and Covered’. If I am not comfortable then I will not wear it. The most important rule regarding fashion is to make you look great and of course to make you feel comfortable.

8. What do you think about muslim women in Indonesia?
As I mentioned on my blog, personally I think that Indonesian & Malaysian girls are the epitome of fashionable Muslim. I like their style, hippie chic. They also have a nice way to wear the veil, beautiful women, very gracious and know how to combined fashion and hijab. My most inspiration is coming from Indonesian girls and I love the way they put color on them. For me Indonesia is the future of Islamic fashion.

9. Describe your best feeling of wearing hijab?
Wearing the veil is one of the most beautiful thing. We must try our best we can to be an example of humanity and to honor this gift of hijab.

Style Spotted : Fika's Wedding Dress

We are always fascinated by an Indonesian traditional wedding, especially when the bride wears hijab. It is amazing that Indonesia is not only culturally rich but also a modest country.

Nalia Rifika, the oldest daughter of the family met the oldest son of the family, Delonika Yuki Eka Putra brought two different culture in Sumatera, Indonesia. Acehnese met Padangnese. It was a delightful and colorful blend of cultures.

The wedding was held in 3 days. First day was the ijab/akad on December 10, 2010 when the bride and the groom had the marriage agreement and officially a husband and wife. Simple white and pink 'kebaya' to embrace the beauty of the bride. A silver jewelry completed the look and matched the tone of her makeup and her dress. Meanwhile the groom wore white traditional tux or what we called it 'beskap'.

The day after on December 11, 2010 Fika and Delon had a reception with Aceh tradition. Aceh is one of the cultures in Indonesia that got a strong influence from Arab, Turkish and Indian descent. Hence, the bride will typically wears a strong color material accessorize with heavy gold jewelry. The bride will hold some heavy material on her head. This is where they place all the head jewelries. Then, the head jewelries will be pinned in one by one to the bride’s head. According to Fika, the weight of her head at the wedding could be more than 8 kilos. Must have been a lot of work.

Fika also got her palms and her feet drawn Mehndi or also know as henna. Mehndi is a skin decoration that common applied during ceremony. In addition Fika wore a heavy gold hand jewelry to sparkle the wedding dress.

The ceremony ended on December 12, 2010 in a Padangnese reception or also called a Minang tradition. Padang, West Sumatera is another part in Indonesia that gets a strong influence from Arab. Red and gold are two essential color we could find from this tradition.

The bride and the groom wore a bright red traditional blouse embroidered in gold. Wearing a heavy jewelry by the bride and the groom is also part of the tradition. Therefore, the appearance of the bride would be considered incomplete unless the bride wore a big gold crown in her head or known as 'suntiang'. It is a very important element for the bride. The highest layers of the suntiang is eleven while Fika was wearing 5-7 layers. Imagine how tall it could be if the layers were up to eleven layers. The gold net fabric nicely covered Fika’s head and neck. This wedding proved that wearing hijab can be traditionally stunning and also well covered.

These are some pictures that I (Mrs. Hanna Faridl) took from my end of the year holiday with my family. Some of them also was taken by my sister when she visited Turki. The cute thing is my sisters also tried to wear hijab during their visit to the market. A long turkish cape was certainly one of recomended items during winter. It makes your body warm and also nicely covered our body shape.

The rest are pictures of me posing as a tourist. I wore my cape coat and long sleeve shirt or sweater to keep my body warm. Boots or thigh high socks are my favorite to make my feet warm. To keep my ear and head nice and warm, most of the time I wore 'beanie'.

My sister and I also captured some muslimah with their beautiful hijab. Surprisingly, I met many stylish muslimah with hijab in Europe compared to United State. I found this quite shocking since I heard that in some countries in Europe example; France, we are not allowed to show our religious view. However, from this trip I had changed my point of view.

Unfortunately not all the hijabi sisters I met there allowed me to take their pictures. I got some rejection hence I canot share every beautiful sister I met there. Moreover sometime I also dont have the guts to ask. Well hopefully there will be next time for me to share more beautiful sisters with their hijab from around the world. Amen.

We ended the trip by walking around neighborhood and going on Singapore River Cruise.
Pretty much astound us with the scenery and the story of how Singapore become one of the most developing country in Asia.

The trip might be too short but definitely memorable for us. In the end the most important thing about the trip is not where you go or how long the trip was but who you go with.

We had lots of fun and we're looking forward to have more adventure, well of course with the husbands or maybe next time with our future kids :) *who knows?

Singapore Trip Part IV (Esplanade & Clarke Quay)

We got one night to celebrate this trip by having a romantic dinner out with the husbands.
We stopped by in the heart of Singapore to capture the memories.

Click clack, we had our pictures with Marina Bay Sands, Fullerton hotel, Esplanade and sky crappers as the backgrounds.
Fifi wore a black dress with pink batik on a side by KaviIndonesia. Lovely black shoes with pearls and tied sweetly around her ankle from Wondershoe. To complete the outfit, Fifi wore Nurzahra's purple stripes scarf draped over her neck and shoulder.
Hanna wore floral maxi dress and wrapped her body with a diy brown stripes cardigans from Nurzahra. Red flower Mary Jane shoes from Wondershoe. just realize that Hanna wore many floral accents from top to toe. Do you think its to much? Hopefully not.
Thanks to Wardah eye shadow seri B, Wardah lipstick number 48 and Wardah lipstick hydrogloss 02. Those have been giving us an outstanding look for this lovely dinner.

Singapore Trip Part III (Universal Studios)

You wont be able to meet Princess Fiona, hence you will see;

Here are some of the best pose Fifi and Hanna had as a princess.

Celebrating the glory of stripes,
Blue white stripes from NurZahra is definately a must have item to collect.

Both of us instantly love the scarf since the first time we saw and decided to have one.

We had so much fun but the sun wasn't that fun. We immediately need the support of Wardah sunscreen that protect our skin with SPF 30 and applied Wardah lightning two way cake golden beige number 02 and blushed our cheeks with Wardah blush on seri C.

By the time we got back to the hotel we would like to reward our skin for being a supportive skin so far. Haha.. We treated our face by giving it Wardah lightening milk cleanser, Wardah lightening face toner and ended it with Wardah lightning night cream and Wardah intensive night cream. In the end, we can hear our skin thanked us for giving them such a soft, nice and light ingredients to the skin :D

Singapore Trip Part II (Universal Studios)

Before we start the day, let's put on some make up.
Wardah lightening powder for higher SPF and some protection during outdoor activity, light eye shadow, eyeliner, splash mascara and nude lipstick for natural look.

We went to Universal Studios. We're ready to get wet, sweat onto the enjoyment.

We decided to celebrate this trip by evoking the heritage of batik.
An orange overall special order from Kavi Indonesia look nice and fun on Fifi; matched with her light purple stripes from NurZahra. Hanna looked bright with her Onna Tosca Pink batik from Kavi Indonesia and NurZahra's white scarf.
Kisses from us and Marilyn Monroe.

The yellow shoes from Wondershoe has been supporting Hanna's ankle wherever she go.

Singapore Trip Part I (The Arrival)

This trip was one of the most anticipated day ever since we started HijabScarf.
We would like to name couple things that made this trip more fun.Notice our outfit. The outfits made us feel comfortable and confidence during the trip.
Fifi wore her Orsaya yellowish green batik made by KaviIndonesia and brown flat boots from Wondershoe. What's interesting from this flat boots is that you can adjust the knee part so you can wear it as a pair of boots or as a cute flat shoes.
Hanna's blouse was custom made by KaviIndonesia. Call it Usagi's blouse, inspired from Japanese uniform. Hanna also wore red satin flower ballerina flats by Wondershoe, comfortable and cute to wear. The flower on the top of her toe definitely caught people's eyes.

On top of that both of us wore mild casual scent from Wardah (Shine & Flame).
It smells nice without irritating someone else's noise.

Tutorial : Hanna's Hijab Style

Wear your headband at your most comfortable position.

Place your head scarf, one part longer than the other.

Take both sides of the scarf to your back. You can add pin on the back
of your neck to make it more secure. Make sure that your scarf doesnt
go too tight and your comfort is the most important.

Take the longer side of the scarf and round it over your neck. Make
sure that the end of this side reach the back of your head. Take the
corner of the scarf and tuck in it inside the scarf or pin it to make
it more secure. However I personally never pin the scarf and let the
scarf casually wrap my face.

1. Tell us about yourself and your activity.
Me, just like another ordinary girls, nothing so special about, 25 years old, cathing my dreams up, bussy with lovelife and carrier, making lots of money, hehe.. and other normal things I do.

My weekdays activity is working as a secretary at an oil and gas service company, located in Kuningan and I teach a student for mandarin languange subject as a private tutor on Monday. That's my major in University. Honestly it is not my dream job, I've always in love with make up, shoes, bags, clothing, photography, and anything related to fashion. Let me share my little secret here, actually I'm dying to be a fashion stylist, haha.. I do have my passion on it. However, since I have no background in fashion industry either experience, it's just a bit hard to me to get job in this field. Eventhough it's still on my day dreaming, I hope I can make it true someday. wish me luck.

2. Tell us the process you wear hijab?
To be honest, up until now I don't really know what to say when people ask me this. I started wear hijab since year 2005, and it's just like a spontaneous feeling to have it wear on my head. Everyone has their own life past journey. I experienced many bad things in mine, but it brings me closer to Allah. He always do what he wants to do. Nothing is impossible to Him. I beg Allah to take me out from the darkness and guide me back to the right way of his. Now here I am, I know that after I wore hijab, it doesn't mean that I won't make any mistake in rest of my life. But I've tried my best to at least minimize it.

3. Have you ever experience unpleasant stories regarding hijab?
Yess I had. I don't see my self as a perfect role of wearing hijab though, I just wear it my way. I'm still wearing the fit shirt, tight jeans, and sometimes my hijab haven't fully covered my head yet and there are so many things that people see not really proper in my way of wearing hijab.

One day, another friend of mine asked me why I'm not wearing hijab as a syaria rules. I answered that Allah knows every goodwill. He knows the most they who changed intensely of being a better person. I don't need human judgment about the way I'm wearing hijab. As far as I'm concerned, there will be a never ending learning process for me to be better than I am now.

Trying my best to keep my self in the right way, nevertheless it's a hardest part of being a moslem. Only Allah knows well what my final evaluation will be, whatever it is I hope I could end it in a good way.

4. Describe your style.
I am kind of simple person, I don't like to put any heavy things in my style. I love to wear comfort shirt with cotton material, skinny jeans, jumpsuit mixed with cardigans, leather jackets and other comfort things that fit in me. I also like such an vintage stuff and renewed it. For instance, when I found my mom's old trousers collection in her wardrobe, soon I grab it and modified it as I want to. Recently.. I found my self comfortable in wearing Jenny's style trousers, as I have it from my mom's collection. And last but not least, I also love to wear high heels when I'm going out. It's a must have item for girls. ;)

5. Any favorite brand and place to shop?
I don't have any particular fav brand to shop. I'd love to wear any cute stuff from any brand or shop as long as it looks good on me.

6. Tell us the hardest part of wearing hijab?
The hardest part of wearing hijab is when people look at you innocently, never do mistake, soft hearted, and very religious. Actually I don't expect people to see me that way.

We all are human and human do mistake. It doesn't mean when a woman decided to wear hijab, and she'll never make any mistake after all.

7. What is your most beneficial experience/moment/anything regarding hijab?
I got the safety feeling at the first time I stepped outside with hijab. People stares at me differently. Now I know that I announced to public that I'm a moslem women with scarf on my head. Friends of mine got shocked at the first time they saw me with hijab, they never thought that I will. Wearing hijab also challenging me to dress up as good as I can. It's quite challenge my sense of fashion to stay stylish and fashionable in wearing it.

1. Tell us about yourself.
My name is Lulu Luthfiyah, working as a civil servant at The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affair and modeling as my part time job.

2. When did you start wearing hijab?
I started wearing hijab since 2003 after hajj. At that time my dad worked in Jeddah as a home staff for hajj affair.

3. Tell us about your process of wearing hijab.
Basically I grew up in a religious family. I went to many Islamic school centers since I was a kid. I spent my childhood and teenager in Islamic school that obligates every student to wear hijab. At that time, I wore hijab only when I went to school. Then I started to wonder how did it feel to go to a regular school that does not obligate the student wearing any hijab. So then I decided to went to a regular University to experience the different atmosphere. It took me only two years to spend my activity without hijab until I started to feel uncomfortable without my hijab. I continue wearing hijab in 2003. I believe hijab is an obligatory for every muslimah.

4. What intrigue you to wear hijab in a middle of your bright carrier in modeling?
After a year modeling I decided to wear hijab because I didn't feel comfortable presenting some shows with some open dresses. In addition with the situation behind stages, inside changing room, and many other reason did not make me comfortable. I believe wearing hijab is my syi'ar to perform beauty and modesty. Every muslimah can be beautiful, stylish and modest while covered. I often feel tempted by job offers to do regular fashion shows presenting revealing clothes. However I have to stay true to my faith and my belief that fortune doesn't go anywhere.

5. So how does it feel to be a hijabi model?
I feel so blessed with my hijab. I get many opportunities and experiences. I also proud to be the only hijabi model who present kebaya or any other dresses among others. I also get more respect. I get my own changing room and my privacy during fashion show even though there were a tight schedule going on. So I guess its cool :) The other advantages I get with wearing hijab is as a reminder for my misbehave.

6 Tell us about your style.
I dress casually depend on my mood. I can be boyish or feminine with maxi dress during my daily activities. A type of maxi dress that I avoid is the staight cut, because it makes my figure go flat like a bamboo (giggle). Most of the time I like wearing lightweight fabrics so I can experiment with my clothes and do layering. Adding this and that like vest, jacket or cardigan. Jeans is my favorite for pants. Any soft lightweight scarves are my cup of tea.

7. Place to shop?
My favorite places to shop are:
Zara, Mango, Magnolia, Batik Keris, MyRins, Up2Date, XSML, Gucci, LV and my fav designers are Korina.S, Irna Mutiara, DianPelangi, Biyan. I also find many interesting stuff at ITC Mangga Dua 4th dan 5th floor. You will get great clothes with great prices.

We are pleased to welcome a community filled with many talented muslimah and hopefully soon will be bigger. We hope that this community can accommodate the dream and the capacities to go beyond.

The Hijabers Community was recently launched on November 27^th , 2010. As they stated on their blog hijaberscommunity.blogspot.com, the community will insyaAllah accommodate events related to hijabi muslimah, from fashion to Islamic studies, from hijab style to learning Islam, anything that will make all of us a better muslimah.

Daily Make Up Shades

We've already posted the evening look, now it's time for daily make up shades. The key to a good look is to keep every color shades as natural as your skin tone, ok so here goes.

Wardah Liquid Foundation (photo. 1) gives the perfect matt tone for our skin. Perfect for daily use since it is light on the skin so it wont make your skin tired. Hanna has a dry skin so it will be better to apply sunscreen or moisturizer before applying foundation. We both wear light beige that suit best to our skin color.

Wardah Lightening Two Way Cake (photo. 2) perfect for our skin and prevent the naughty black spot. It also contain Licorice extract and UV protection, so we don't need to worry about our outdoor activities, but we do hope they made the sponge surface smoother.

Wardah Eye Liner Pencil (photo. 3) draws eyes with loads of black, drawing the corner out as far as you dare by only one line. Perfect to get a smoky effect. Use gently for day use and strong line for night use.

Wardah Eye Shadow (photo. 4 & 5) come out with three different colors so we can blend the colors properly. Neutral colors like champagnes, taupes and chocolate browns are best colors for daily use. Another option for more yellowish based browns and beige tones. The color stays on for hours and we didnt have trouble reapplying because only a little dash and the highlighting effect will take effect immediately on our lids. We apply darker brown shade to colour the outer lids and lighter color for inside lids in order to get bigger and strong eyes.

Hanna is using eyeshadow code A while Fifi is wearing eyeshadow code B. Which one suit you? Dont worry Wardah has 14 different color and it still come out with three color in a pack. Nice! Oh and also the eye shadow is quite long lasting.

In an attempt to make our wimpy lashes look thicker longer and more voluminous, Wardah Long Lash Curling Mascara (photo. 7) is our solutions. It can improve the appearance of eyes, brighter and more noticeable.

Blush on can be a beauty secret weapon for ever women. Therefor, Wardah Blush On (photo. 6) number C is our weapon for our daily make up. Natural looking color, we are not afraid of "Miss Jengkelin" looking a like. The brush so cute and small pretty handy to carry. However Fifi prefered to brush her checks with wider brush so she prefer to use her own brush.

In order to give greater shine for our lips our choice goes to Wardah Exclusive Lipstick (photo. 9) number 37 and 33. Try to mix both color using lip brush or mix it with brighter color for example Wardah number 48, this will help us distribute the color evenly and get more fresh color.

Last but not least, Wardah Wondershine (photo. 10) contain with Squalene, Jojoba oil, VItamin E, shining your lips and giving your luminous result also pampering our lips with moisture and antioxidant protection.

Get The Look For Evening Event

After a couple of weeks using Wardah products, we came out with a brighter smile. We would definitely continue wearing the products. Let us share our stories.

How to get a beautiful elegant look for evening party or some special occasions without going to a professional makeup artist? Let's have Wardah collections makeup done. To perform a great make up for night we would like to look bold but not aggressive nor inappropriate.

After having our face clean and moisturize, we apply Wardah Liquid Foundation. A foundation that give your face brighter look yet its still light on face. Our tips to cover some fine lines we apply double so our face will look smoother.

In order to give a beautiful look at all times we apply Wardah Two Way Cake with brush or puff anything that suit your cup of tea. It contain with vitamin E and oil control that will help our face look fresh and bright. The formula absorb excess oil from your skin. From Hanna's experience she likes to use brush rather then the sponge that come with the powder, it blends with the skin better since she has a dry skin.

For night use we go for a sultry eye using chocolate bronzes, charcoal blacks, metalic emeralds, eggplant purples and deep grey. Wardah offering those color on Wardah Eye Shadow code number H, B and F. We both mixed those colors. It may look messy at first, but do not worry because we have our blending brush.

We line our bottom lash line with Wardah Eye Liner Pencil and get smudge. The pencil lines our eye perfectly, dark, bold and deep without lining it couple of times. One line and it frames our eyes like a pro.

Last touch for the eyes is double lash our eyes with Wardah Long Lash Curling Mascara after putting a fake eye lashes. Voila.. Ready to stare.

Brush on some soft pink peach brown blush from Wardah Blush On code A (Hanna) and code C (Fifi) onto the hollows of our cheeks. As we both having a round and wide cheeks, we avoid applying rights on the apples, we dont want to accentuates the roundness even more.

For our lips, we swipe Wardah Exclusive Lipstick number 26, Matte Lipstick 4 and define it with a shiny gloss from Wardah Wondershine number 3.

So there you go, an easy make up step for your evening event. Dare to wear bright colors on your eyes and accessorize your hijab scarf with a pretty headband. Remember, if you put a bright colors on make up, try to wear a natural color for scarf.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a fashion designer/stylist who is trying to get recognition as an Indonesian hijabi singer.

2. When did your start wearing hijab and what motivate you?
December 8th, 2009, I remember it was on Muharram. I get this question a lot and I only have one answer. It’s because I am scared. I’m scared if God questions my commitment as a muslimah. I also got this dream that sort of agitate me for a week. I couldn’t sleep and crying, craving to wear hijab. After discussing with a couple of muslim scholars, insyallah God has given me a hidayah or guidance to wear one. Alhamdulillah.

3. You are a singer and you own a line as well. Which one are you more comfortable with? How do you relate between the two?
Fashion business + music industry = art
Both are art committed by heart. Both are gifts given by Allah to me and I have responsibility to His gift as best as I can. Both fashion and music industries affect both sides. I need to give my best appearance when I sing and singing supports my fashion business.

4. Does your line reflect your daily style?
I am very flexible with my style. You can tell it from various style I sell and I wear. In terms of business, I have to know what my market like. However, I am picky how I choose my daily outfit.

5. Tell us about your single "Terimalah Taubatku" Who wrote the song?
I am lucky to have a great producer as well as composer/ songwriter ConQ Perwira who also my very best friend. He is a producer/composer/songwriter for some Indonesian singer such as Bunga Citra Lestari, The Sister, Andhika Prataa, Denada and many more. This song was actually made to be sang by Sahrul Gunawan, another Indonesian singer. But I guess God has His own path to let me sing the song. Alhamdulillah.

6. Does it resemblence an experience in your life when you wrote this song?
My producer told me that the song wasn’t made for me, however I call this faith that this song ended up singing by me. The song “Terimalah Taubatku” (my repentance) somehow reflect my stories.

7. What is the hardest part of wearing hijab especially as a singer?
I need extra self-confidence to be a hijabi singer especially when I decide to sing a regular song and not a religious song. I need recognition from audience among many talented Indonesian musicians. I am working in music industry with all my heart (likewise working in fashion business). I just need to be myself and everything will be going smooth and well in the process. I believe every honest intention and good will deserve great fight.

8. Your must have items are?
My jersey cotton shawl that I wear for hijab and shoes either flat and heels.

9. There is an opinion that in islam female voice consider awrah and it should not be heard. What do you think about this?
In my opinion, every action depends on the intention. For the sake of Allah almight, if God wills, my action will also spread goodness through music. Also, I would like to show that hijab is not limiting us to be creative. This is also a reason why not all of my songs is under the religious genre. Although I have songs that are pop/jazz/trendy pop, they talk about giving motivation, friendships, nature greatness etc, things that I hope will be able to inspire and have positive effect. In these songs, I focus more on the message and singing it from the heart, instead of focusing in the singing technique. I hope when I am able to perform it well, these songs will accepted by the public and inspire them, especially my muslim friends

10. What is Inna Rovita in 5 words?
Believe with your “heart” and admire things that has “value”.

We all agree that she has impressed us with her look. Before we jump into how she pulled off her look, let us first turn into the way she put on her hijab. You can learn the way she wrapped her scarf from the previous post. In this post she added a brocade accessories on top of her hijab in order to get a formal look.

Inna Rovi has successfully proved that wearing hijab does not limit your choice of style. Layering clothes is the answer. We can learn the way she mixed and matched styles. Look at her orange shirt casually tied in the front mix with the flower long skirt. The second picture, we learn to look feminine with her blowy flare neck and a bold detail on one of her shoulder.

Also her last picture where she suited her up with vest blue jeans and her collar up. If you are still unsure that jumpsuit is your cup of tea, take a look at her first and fourth styles. It illustrates not only the diversity of jumpsuit; she mixes with grey cardigans and simple white shirt, but also the casual and semi formal look.

Wardah Face Treatment

Before I made this review, I've been using Wardah products for 3 months, and it turns out to be great!! I changed all my face treatment to Wardah, because it's suitable for my oily skin and yes this is definitely nice products. I will not advertise, but if you're wondering about how good it is, just give it a try, oww also Wardah have the halal certificate, I found them to be calming, but only available in Indonesia and Malaysia

(Mrs. Fifi Alvianto).

This is a story between me and Wardah facial treatment. Couple weeks ago I had this never ending wedding ceremony in Kalimantan. A friend gave me a package consists of cleanser, toner, facial wash, peeling cream and sunscreen gel from Wardah Cosmetic. I thought heeey I should try these products since the products are halal and pretty much well known among muslimah. I am personally getting more familiar with this label since the logo is on credit title of some drama movies and TV shows

(Mrs. Hanna Faridl).

This is how the story goesI had my make up cleaned with cleanser first. After a few wipes from a typical wedding thick make up, all the make up on my face came off. I was impressed. I have a normal to dry skin and this product gave me a perfect amount of moisturizer.
Next is the peeling cream. Have you ever experienced your skin got burned after using a peeling cream? This one wont. I didnt get any of those warm itchy blushing annoying on my face. The texture are soft and not harsh. Have you ever got your skin dry out after exfoliating your face? Again, this product wont. It left my skin smooth and soft. I was satisfied.

After that, I washed my face with facial wash. I was even more impressed with this one. I don’t like facial wash that produce lots of foam. This one gave me the right amount of foam and fragrance. It is smooth to the face and giving brightness to my face after use. Its a creamy and not too thick with mild scent. I could easily massage my face with its soft gentle nice texture. I was impressed with this facial wash. It cleaned all makeup and greasiness thoroughly. Nothing was left behind.

The last ritual of the night was cleanser and toner. I have to admit the facial wash took my breath away that this product turned out to be just ok. I am not saying its not a good product, it left my face feeling fresh. The most important thing is that this cleanser and toner did not dry your skin out.

The next morning, I applied sunscreen gel with spf 30 to protect my skin from the damage cost sunlight. Its not greasy, very light to my skin. It absorbs quickly. Since the first time I tried it, this sunscreen becomes my daily cream before I put my make up on.

Tutorial : Inna's Hijab Style

Are you in a hurry? This is an express way to wear hijab, not only stylish but also easy and quick.

1. Place your rectangle scarf / light material pashmina half way over your head. Make sure the length is same between two sides.

2. Grab one side of the scarf, pull it over your head.

3. Tucking in on the back of your head and secure it inside the scarf.

4. Grab the other side of the scarf and round them around your neck. To make it secure, pin the scarf close to your neck and ear.

5. In less than 40 seconds, the hijab is done and you are ready to go!

Tutorial : Nurul's Hijab Style

Step 1

Wear your favorite bandana. Fold the scarf in half, corner to corner.
Step 2
Place scarf over your head with both sides at an equal length.
The ends of the scarf should be hanging off the sides of your head.
Step 3
Wrap the tail of the scarf around your head. Lay the folded scarf in front of your neck.
Step 4
Tie two side corners together into a bowline knot, tighten and fan out the pleats.

Voila.. it's the Bowline Drape Scarf Style.

Not everyone have the guts to wear jumpsuit. Jumpsuit can be a dreadfull. Jumpsuit can be hard to wear no matter your figure type is. When you have a curvy figure, jumpsuit can be a tacky. In other hand, when you have a lean figure it makes you lose on it. The worst thing on jumpsuit is the whole undressed moment in the bathroom. Its time consuming.

On the contrary, jumpsuit is practically fast to wear. It's convinient and easy to wear. We will convince you that jumpsuit is hijab-appropriate.

These might help you to make jumpsuit appropriate for a hijabi sister :
1. Baggy jumpsuit only suit for a person with size 0 (zero).
2. Wide leg jumpsuit for a curvy bodies.
3. Accessorizing. Belted in firmly at your waist and add some neckles.
4. Cardigans/blazzer to mix a sleeveless jumpsuit.
5. Add some basic jacket/denim for a floral jumpsuit or a pattern jumpsuit.
6. Heels will make it perfect.
